Principal's Message

Mr. P

Centurion Students, Families, and Community Supporters,

I am honored to return to University City High School as principal, with a vision to advance the legacy of our wonderful school. I am thrilled beyond measure to work with students, parents, caregivers, staff and the local community to ensure that we provide equitable opportunities that lead to success for each and every student.

On a personal note, I’d like to share that I’m married to my high school sweetheart, Allison, who is an elementary school teacher in San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD). We are both products of SDUSD, and are proud parents of four adult children who each graduated from our neighborhood school which is also part of SDUSD. I strive to be the type of educator and administrator that I’d want for my own children.

For more than two decades in my career as an educator, I have maintained and modeled a student-first approach to this lifework. My philosophy is best captured through a quote from former NFL Coach, Tony Dungy, that reads, “Do what we do. Whatever it takes. No excuses, no explanations.” The “We” includes our entire team of support, both at home and at school. Our Centurion staff is devoted to providing a safe, supportive, and engaging environment that ignites our learners to discover the genius that each of them possesses. We are committed to ensuring that every Centurion is equipped with the tools to succeed in college and career. We all have a responsibility to prepare our learners to meet our school-wide learning goals, assuring that each of them are:

  • Contributing members to the community
  • Collaborative citizens
  • Effective communicators
  • Independent thinkers
  • Technologically skilled
Connections and relationships are important and are directly linked to student achievement in high school. We are blessed to have an array of extracurricular opportunities at UC. I encourage all of our students to discover a program that inspires them, and to advocate for the creation of new opportunities that might not yet exist. I look forward to meeting with many of you over the course of my first year (and beyond) at UC, to listen and learn about the bright spots, and to discover where we can go from here.

Centurions, it’s going to be a great year. Together, let’s “Win the Day”!

UC...U Know!
