Summer School Update (04-19-2021)
While we just started the final semester for quarter 4 classes, we are already in the planning process for students needing to take summer school. Summer school this year will be a bit different from what has been held in the past. In the past, summer school was not offered at UCHS. This year UCHS will host students for summer school on site. These sessions will be for students needing to make up credit in classes. The caveat is that students will need to find their own way to and from school as there will not be any summer school transportation services provided. For students who live near another high school in the district, they can attend their summer school onsite program to make up credits.
There will be two onsite summer offerings at UCHS: June 21st through July 9th and July 12th through July 30th. These classes will use a project based format where teachers will collaborate on assignments that are interdisciplinary. This means students will work on projects that require the use of skills and knowledge from multiple subject areas. Students in these classes will be able to remediate D’s and F’s they may have earned in prior core subject classes.
For those wanting online learning, the school district will be offering online summer school through Edgenuity. This is an established online curriculum where students work on their assignments via online. Through Edgenuity, students will be able to make up 2 credits on this platform. Another change from the past, students have the option to take a non-A-G elective course offering via Edgenuity. While this credit may not help students applying to a four year college, it can help some students needing an elective credit to fulfill their high school graduation requirements. Questions about this election course option should be explored with the student’s counselor.
