School Update (04-06-2021)
Good evening Centurions. Just a reminder, this week is finals for Quarter 3 classes, periods 1, 2 and 3. Students are attending class in the mornings with their teachers, 40 minutes each period.
On Monday, April 12th, we will start our final quarter (semester) of the school year. This will be for periods 4, 5 and 6. School will start each day at 8:50 AM and end each day at 12:50 PM.
Students who shared they will be attending in-person school will start either the 12th or the 14th depending on their last name. Students with the last names A-L will attend Monday and Tuesday and last names M-Z will attend Wednesday and Thursday. The 37 students who attended Phase I learning on campus may continue to come to school all four days next week. All students will work on class assignments on Fridays from home. For this particular week, April 12-16, we will be in a two day a week model.
Starting Monday, April 19th, we look to be able to offer in-person school four days a week for those who shared they desired to attend school on campus. This will be the case for about 96% of our students. The exception will be for students who have classes that are too large and do not allow for social distancing. We will look to change student schedules to balance classes to allow more to access four days on campus, but for about 50 students, this may not be possible. We will let those impacted know next week once we see our true numbers.
In the case of three teachers, their personal needs do not allow them to return to campus for in-person instruction. They are Ms. Stephanie Conrad, Ms. Renee Wilson, and Mr. Doug Welsh. The good news is that they will still be teaching students both in school and at home via online learning. This will allow us to not have to hire substitutes who may or may not know the content, in addition to the possibility of not having enough substitutes to cover class needed throughout the district. The students in these classes will be housed in the auditorium where they will use their computers to do their work in class online for the period they have one of these teachers.
Here’s what to expect the first day either Monday, A-L, or Wednesday, M-Z: Gates to the campus will open at 8:00 AM. Formal check-in of students will be from 8:15 AM to 8:45 AM. There will be daily check-in places at the main gates of the quad area. It’s critical students be prepared to bring completed two forms:
1) The Opt-in Form
2) The ClearPass verification or The completed Symptom Checklist Form.
When students check-in, they will be given a colored ticket and a school map showing room numbers and a color coded building distinction showing what bathrooms to use based on classroom assignments by period.
I will have more to share daily as we work our way towards being back in school on Monday, April 12th.
-Mr. O.
