SGT and Phase 1 Expansion 2.16.21

SGT and Phase 1 Expansion 2.16.21
Posted on 02/16/2021

This Wednesday, February 17th, the School Site Governance Team (SSGT) and School SIte Council (SSC) will be meeting to provide input into the 2021-2022 school budget.  All stakeholders are invited to attend these meetings to hear about school priorities.  At the start of each meeting, public comment is held which allows stakeholders an opportunity to provide input to the groups. The meeting will take place on the 17th, at 3 pm, and all interested parties can email me at, [email protected] and I will send out the zoom invite address.

This week the teacher’s union and district officials reached another agreement that allows more students the opportunity to learn on campus. Up to this point we have been serving up to 18 students on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These students spend the day at school learning online from their teachers, but at school.  With the new Phase I Expansion agreement reached, we will be expanding the number of students we can support and house on campus. The rule before was only allowing four students at a time in a room. The new number is ten and we can also create learning labs for students where up to fourteen students in a location can be served. The other change is we can now allow students to be on campus five days a week.

Please know there are some guidelines for who can be on campus as students under the Phase I Expansion. The group of students who will be served first will be students who have special education services; students who speak English as a second language; students who are homeless and are living in places of transition; students who are having connectivity issues at home; students who are facing mental health challenges; and students who have not been doing well in general learning from an online environment.

We hope to have on campus over 50 students starting the week of February 22nd. All should know our expansion is predicated on having enough willing staff members and substitutes available. If we have enough staff members, we plan to start calling students and their families next week about their possibility of starting back to school five days a week. While all students will still be learning online, I know I am excited about seeing more or our Centurions on campus. All health protocols will be followed and maintained.

Have a great week, Mr. O
