UCHS Grading Policy Changes

UCHS School Update (11-05-2020)

 

Dear UCHS Families,


The other day in my call out I shared that our Board of Education adopted a standards-based grading policy. Furthermore, I explained that the implementation of this new policy would be gradual in order to align our school site policies to the new revised grading policy. For this school year, educators will focus on two areas: 


  1. Removing nonacademic factors from the academic grade

  2. Providing opportunities for revision and reassessment

UCHS staff has spent considerable time over this last week reviewing these two expectations and have put together a FAQ for how these new guidelines will be implemented at UCHS (Nueva política de calificaciones). The new grading policy will start now, the start of Quarter 2.  

 

Over the coming months, we will be working with our School Site Governance Team (SSGT) to flush out any additional changes or adjustments needed in the policy. Everyone should know in advance, the policy is being adjusted to make sure students that are not doing well, have opportunities for retakes and revisions in all classes. 

 

Hopefully the FAQ we have put together will cover most questions that come to mind when addressing non academic factors, in addition to explaining how revisions and reassessments will be offered and handled.  Should you have any additional questions we should consider adding to the FAQ, please send them to me at jolivero@sandi.net.
