Senior Class School Update (06-13-2021)

Good evening seniors and their parents, I am calling to remind everyone about some important to do’s.  Tomorrow night, Monday, June 14th, we will have our Senior Dinner and Movie Night in the UCHS stadium. Everyone should arrive at 6 PM as we will begin checking in seniors for attendance taking as well as to make sure students are not showing any COVID like symptoms.  If a senior can’t join us, no problem.  We just need for them to contact the attendance office to let them know they will not be at the event.  We want to make sure both parents and school know where our seniors are for the night.

We have ordered 315 meals for the event and have 426 seniors.  We arrived at this number based on prior years we have held senior movie nights as well as the senior survey that was taken.  Please know we apologize now if more than what we had planned show up. What’s on the menu? Tacos! We have ordered carne and chicken with a few vegetarian style tacos. Each meal will be individualized as we are required by district public health guidelines to have individual servings.

You may ask, what film are we showing? By popular demand, we are showing Monster University.  In know…. I questioned the choice.  An animated film for seniors? Trust me, I thought the same a few years back but when we showed it to our seniors they loved it.  It gets dark around 8:15 PM and we will start showing the film. While the film will likely go to about 9:45 PM, we will start excusing students at 9:30 PM for those who need an early release. All others will be released after the film.

Seniors should plan on bringing a large blanket that will designate their social distancing spacing.  Students must wear a mask. Also encouraged is for students to bring a beach chair or an outdoor folding chair in the back rows. All should bring a blanket and jacket as it can get cold at night.

We plan to hand out Diplomas and collect Cap and Gowns on Tuesday, June 15th, at 1 PM.  Receiving a diploma is contingent on having turned in all books/computer and have paid any and all fines. Seniors can turn these in tomorrow during school hours or before 1 PM on Tuesday if they have not already done so.

We are up to 248 Prom tickets sold.  The Prom committee will be meeting at the Hyatt on this Wednesday to go over the facility arrangement for the Prom on Wednesday, June 23rd. I will be sending out a few places to consider going to on Saturday, June 19th, to get a COVID test for those needing to show a negative COVID result to attend the Prom. All attending the Prom need to show proof of either a negative test or have proof of vaccination.

That’s it for tonight.  Look forward to see our seniors tomorrow night!  Coach O.
