Tardy Policy

NOTE:  If a student has been marked absent or tardy from a class in error, the student is responsible for having the teacher make the correction.  The teacher will notify the Attendance Office of the change.  If you receive a call that your child was absent and you believe it to be an error, please check PowerSchool or contact the office.

TARDY POLICY (6-Week Period)

TARDY CONSEQUENCE

NOTE: 12 or more accumulated tardies during the semester will result in a U for the semester.

A student may raise their citizenship grade by making up absences and tardies at Saturday Success School (CASSAS) and/or after school with the teacher of record or Dean of Attendance & Accountability and/or on any Level Up Day after school. Each hour served, clears one absence. Each tardy is 30 minutes.

A student not complying with the above procedures may be given Saturday School or suspended from school for defiance. The San Diego Unified School District considers any tardy of more than 30 minutes to be truancy.  The review of the number of tardies starts over at each 6-week grading period.

After any absence, parents are requested to provide absence verification to the school office when the student returns to school. No student shall have his/ her grade reduced or lose credit for an excused absence. A student with an excused absence will be allowed to complete all assignments and tests missed during the absence. Upon satisfactory completion of the assignment or test, within a reasonable period, the student will be given full credit. Tests and assignments will be reasonably equivalent to, but not necessarily identical to, the tests and assignments that the student missed during the absence.
